Watts Bar Lake is one of several reservoirs that exist along the Tennessee River. It was formed in 1942 at the completion of the Watts Bar Dam, which provides needed flood control and hydroelectric power. The dam features a lock for lowering vessels down to the Chickamauga Reservoir, making it important to the local shipping industry. Watts Bar is also a popular destination for recreation, including fishing. A variety of structures and depths in the lake provide habitat for a multitude of fish species. Anglers commonly target largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie and striped bass, though a variety of other species are also pursued.
