Chickamauga Lake was formed in 1940 with the completion of the Chickamauga Dam, which was created to produce hydroelectric power and provide flood protection for the City of Chattanooga and surrounding areas. A lock adjacent to the dam also helps contribute to the shipping industry in the region. As recently as 2014, the lake was ranked as one of the top 10 bass lakes in the nation by Bassmaster Magazine—a recognition that is warranted, given the number of large bass that are regularly taken from the lake. In fact, Chickamauga has produced both the state record largemouth bass and the state record spotted bass. This renown has sparked a large number of organizations to hold tournaments on the lake each year. Black bass aren’t the only draw, though. Besides bass, the lake provides ample opportunities for crappie, striped bass, sunfish and several other species. Featured Species:Largemouth Bass, Blue Catfish, Black Crappie, Bluegill, W
