Garmin® and MAD MAPS Team Up to Make Your Drive Memorable

OLATHE, KS/October 29, 2007/PR Newswire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced a partnership with MAD MAPS that will provide scenic reminders that traveling by car or motorcycle is more than simply reaching a destination.

“The routes developed by MAD MAPS are proof that the best way to get somewhere isn’t always the fastest way,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales.  “By adding these detailed road trips to Garmin’s extensive database of more than six million points of interest, we’re able to make every drive an enjoyable ride to remember.”

Whether heading across the country or out on a weekend road trip, drivers can download and use MAD MAPS with their zūmo™ or nüvi® to find the road less traveled and more appreciated. After founder Jenny Lefferts moved to San Francisco in 1987 and started searching the Bay Area for scenic drives, she launched MAD MAPS (www.madmaps.com) to share the beauty of our back roads. “Our road scouts and research staff identify funky, quirky, and fascinating places to visit along our routes. Then they compile rich, detailed information on each of them,” said Lefferts. “Our partnership with Garmin ensures that now anyone with a car, RV, or motorcycle and a Garmin device can benefit from our team’s efforts.” In addition to Garmin’s preloaded points of interest, MAD MAPS’ data features a variety of specific points of interest associated with each route, including roadhouses and other highlighted attractions.

Beginning in December, Garmin will make three MAD MAPS product lines available for download at www.garmin.com:

U.S. Regional Touring Series, $11.99 per map: Longing for an ideal day trip or overnighter? There are 24 maps in this series; each map contains between 25-35 routes.

Fight the Winter Blues: Hit the Road in the Sunshine State

For Immediate Release
Escape winter and avoid the crowds when you travel off the beaten path with MAD MAPS’ newly released Florida Regional Scenic Tours map.

San Francisco, CA, October 9, 2007 — Fight the winter blues with a Florida road trip, and take along MAD MAPS’ newly released Florida Regional Scenic Tours map. You’ll see a side of Florida you may have missed before. If you need a break from winter’s sleet and snow and want to head south to warmer, sunnier climes, but you’re afraid of getting stuck in a crowd, one of the 25 routes covering the state from the Panhandle to the Keys (and everywhere in between), will take you off the usual migratory routes.

Most road maps focus on getting from point A to point B, fast. MAD MAPS are different: our local scouts have chosen the best recreational touring roads in the region. Every road on a MAD MAPS route offers something special. Turn-by-turn directions keep your adventure on track, on roads that offer the scenic views and tantalizing suggested stops (along with a bit of “mad” history).

In Florida, this Mad Map leads you:  through the oldest city in the United States along Route A1A; to the capitol of the Conch Republic via the “Overseas Highway;” and across the “Sunshine Skyway Bridge” to groove to the Latino beat in Centro Ybor City. Listed “Roadside Attractions” include places of special interest, like Don Garlits’ Museum of Drag Racing in Ocala, the John & Mabie Ringling Museum Complex in Sarasota, and the mysterious “Coral Castle” in Homestead.

Need a bite to eat or a drop to wet your whistle? The list of “Roadhouses” is well worth the price of the map. Fast Eddies is the (tiki) bar of choice in St. Pete; Joanie’s Blue Crab Café serves up various ‘gator entrees in Ochopee; and get your fill of fresh catfish at Whitey’s Fish Camp in Orange Park, where they’ll bring it until you tell them to stop.

Florida teems with wildlife – and not only in Miami. The “Great Outdoors”, another helpful Mad Maps feature, directs you to some of the best state parks and natural features in Florida. Beautiful touring roads lead through the Ocala, Osceola, and Apalachicola National Forests, along the fringes of the Okefenokee Swamp, and into the center of the Everglades. If a ride along “Alligator Alley” isn’t exciting enough, stop at Gatorama in Palmdale or stroll across a bridge over a pit of hungry alligators in Bonita Springs. Swim with sharks, dolphins, and manatees, or just watch the mermaids perform, at Weeki Wachee.

A perfect gift for your favorite wanderer, this map offers fun weekend getaways, a month of premium touring, or a winter with no regrets. Printed on water-resistant, coated-stock paper, take this 27” x 36” map along on years of great road trips. All 24 maps in the U.S. Regional Touring series, plus other MAD Maps products, are available for sale at www.madmaps.com, or ask your local bookseller.

MAD Maps' Team of All-Women Motorcyclists Ride Suzuki Cruisers Across Country and Navigate their Customized Routes on the Tomtom Rider

The Purpose of the ride from San Francisco to Athens, GA is to attend the 2006 AMA/FIM International "Women and Motorcycling" Conference June 30-July 3, 2006

San Francisco, CA, May 4, 2006 — MAD [Motor Adventure Destinations] Maps, Inc., producers of uniquely informative regional and national scenic back road maps, announces its "all-women" team of motorcyclists will be riding Suzuki Motorcycles from San Francisco, California to Athens, Georgia to participate in the 2006 AMA/FIM "International Women & Motorcycling Conference" being held in Athens from June 30-July 3. Assisting the all-women team on their nine-day ride will be a MAD Maps scenic navigational route that will be electronically uploaded onto TomTom RIDER's portable GPS navigation system and then physically mounted onto each Suzuki motorcycle.

Jenny Lefferts, CEO and founder of MAD Maps, Inc. and Master of Ceremonies for the Conference, will chart the five-day motorcycle ride and take the team into "No Man's Land" and over the "Loneliest Road" through Nevada. She'll then work their way to Grand Junction, Colorado; onward through Dodge City, Kansas, Paducah, Kentucky, Knoxville, Tennessee; where she'll pick up the CEO of the AMA, Patti DiPietro and Rob Rasor, President of the AMA, along with several of their scouts to wrap-up the ride in Athens, Georgia on June 29 - just in time for the June 30 kick-off of this truly exciting "Women & Motorcycling" Conference where 1,000 female motorcycle enthusiasts are expected to attend. Riding along with Jenny Lefferts are her business associates Maggie Beaumier, Vice President of MAD Maps, Inc.; Essa Cooper, IT & R&D Developer; Aeleah McDonald, National Sales Manager and Diana Nankin, Lead Cartographer. Riding sag wagon is Dave Cooper, Director of Business Development and husband to Essa Cooper.

According to Glenn Hansen, Communications Manager for American Suzuki Motor Corporation, "About 15 years ago, women represented about six percent of all motorcycle owners. Today, that number is well over 10 percent in motorcycles and nearly 15 percent in ATV's. Hansen reports that Suzuki and its dealers know this market segment cannot be ignored. "The Suzuki Boulevard C50, for example," says Hansen, "is a great motorcycle for women and men with its low seat height. Suzuki has also caught the female eye by designing sleek scooters that appeal to women and men, yet these 'scooters' are still powerful enough motorcycles to keep up with Interstate traffic." Hansen added, "At Suzuki dealerships, there is no talking down to women. In fact, some of our best salespeople are women."

For 20 years, Suzuki has supported America's top road racing privateers, motocrossers and off-road racers with payouts and technical support. This year, Suzuki is supporting Mad Maps' Jenny Lefferts, to ride its all-new Boulevard M109R, across country to attend the "Women & Motorcycling" Conference. Designed for those riders who love to cruise and travel long distances in comfort and style, the Boulevard M109R is a radical new machine that combines cruiser styling with the heart-pounding performance and rock-solid reliability of Suzuki's hottest sport bikes.

"The specialized route information provided by MAD Maps, Inc. brings an added benefit to our customers," says TomTom's U.S. President, Jocelyn Vigreux. "At TomTom, easy and innovative navigation has always been our number one priority," he continues, "and we also strive to provide our clients with a variety of additional options to enhance their lifestyles and personal preferences. With digital MAD Maps now loaded on our device, riders can simply click on the screen and find an entire scenic route planned for them, complete with motorcycle friendly services."

TomTom RIDER is the first-ever portable GPS device designed specifically for motorcycles. It is rugged and weather resistant, and its anti-glare technology and integrated sun visor make the screen easy to see while driving. The easy-to-use drive mode is designed for simple touch-screen operation - even while wearing gloves. The crystal-clear 3-D view and a Bluetooth wireless headset let you hear turn-by-turn instructions in your helmet. The Bluetooth™ connection also allows for hands-free calling with a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone.

"MAD Maps partnership with Suzuki and TomTom is an obvious link for us," says Jenny Lefferts. "We create and document scenic driving routes that are not often found on conventional maps. We can now make these itineraries even more accessible in a digital format, allowing off road travelers to easily and conveniently reach their destinations. It's amazing to discover," says Lefferts, "just how many domestic road trips are logged in the United States and how much more efficient it will be to travel with the TomTom GPS devices." Lefferts also notes that, "Although it's long been said that women are not good at following directions, its been great fun for me to prove "them" wrong by creating maps made by women that are respectfully utilized by males and females alike. Riding across country on a Suzuki Boulevard with a TomTom RIDER portable GPS navigation system is certain be one of the most thrilling experiences I've ever had."

All MAD Maps' routes have been tracked and collected by its team of regional and national scouts and cartographers. MAD Maps, Inc., in partnership with TomTom and Tele Atlas, a leading provider of digital maps and dynamic location content, have developed the digital routes for MAD Maps. Tele Atlas is the base cartographer for MAD Maps and also provides the source map data for the TomTom products. Navteq provides the source map data for the TomTom RIDER.

Peter Coyote Rides MAD!

Jenny Lefferts, founder of MAD MAPS, is always scouting knowledgeable sources for new leads on secret back roads that every motorcyclist would love to ride. Here actor/author/activist Peter Coyote, who has been riding motorcycles daily for half a century, shares some of his favorite secret rides through Northern California with Jenny. Peter not only rides daily as a personal commitment to use less fuel, but also enjoys the pensive pleasures of solo motorbiking. It is on these inner quests that the star of over eighty movies and hundreds of television shows has discovered some pretty rare and scenic journeys to the back roads of Zen, life and Northern California .

Jenny met Peter at the Book Depot Café in the idyllic village of Mill Valley in California 's Marin County . Mill Valley is said to have more writers per capita than any other town in the world. Peter Coyote is a well-known author, famous among motorcycling circles for his Pushcart Prize winning epic Sleeping Where I Fall. More than any other work, Sleeping Where I Fall lends the best historical overview of Northern California 's contribution to the developing motorcycle scene in the sixties, and a chapter of it was reprinted in Gino Zanetti's immortal anthology She's A Bad Motorcycle . After the hour-long tête-à-tête with Jenny and JR, Peter had this to say about MAD MAPS:

Jenny Lefferts and her business partner JR are a couple of real biker broads (and this is a strictly honorific appellation.) They pulled up to our meeting on good wheels (a Kawasaki Vulcan Mean Streak, and a Kawasaki 500 EX), suited up in good order and on time. I had wanted to meet them ever since I received a series of their MAD MAPS for California ---maps of high-quality graphics with superlative bike road routes colorfully highlighted. The maps are beautifully printed (and the newest ones will be weatherproof) and their goal is to eventually blanket the entire country so that riders can find the most scenic and thrilling routes throughout the Pacific Coast, Wild West, Four Corners, Texas Hill Country, Black Hills of Wyoming, Ozarks, Heartland, Smoky Mountains and the East Coast — routes all duly noted and marked with rest-stops, restaurants, and fuel. Each of these rides keeps you on unforgettable back roads and while my interest is motorcycles, these maps would be first rate for motor-home cruisers, trailer enthusiasts and duffers who just like to drive their cars in pretty places. You can never have too many maps. Try these out.

Peter Coyote
November 10, 2004

And what are Peter's favorite rides? Jenny said, “Fans of Mad Maps will have to wait until our Motorcycle MADness USA: Rides of a Lifetime map comes out in February 2005.”

MAD MAPS announces the August 2004 release of its San Francisco/Wine Country Scenic Tours, the latest update to its 4-part California Dreamin' map series. With San Francisco attractions, restaurants, and bars on one side and the scenic roads and vineyards of the Napa, Sonoma, and Alexander Valleys on the other, this map is the ideal travel guide for those visitors and business travelers who may only have a day or two to spare in the area. It showcases the best of what the City by the Bay has to offer as well as the most spectacular sights along an afternoon's drive through the Wine Country. Fans of the original California Dreamin' series however need not despair as they will find true Bay Area back roads adventures on MAD MAPS newly expanded Northern California Scenic Tours Map which now features routes venturing as far south as Monterey Bay and as far north as the Oregon border.

Jennifer Lefferts, Founder and President of MAD MAPS, or Chief MAD Hatter, as she prefers to call herself, explains the innovative concept behind this new map: "We realized that not all visitors are afforded the luxury of time. Extended road trips may not be feasible for those in town for a meeting or trade show or those limited to just a few days of sightseeing - so we wanted to make sure we addressed their particular interests all while maintaining the essence of what we do as a company." Acclaimed by Road&Track for "doing such a good job of mapping ...great...roads" and by the San Francisco Chronicle for their "exacting detail" and "entertaining commentary," MAD MAPS are designed for those who favor the road less traveled. "So in keeping with what we do, we've made sure to include popular destinations along with little known gems," says Ms. Lefferts. "There's much to discover in San Francisco and the Wine Country whether you're a gourmand, a history or movie buff - and much of it lies off the beaten path," adds Ms. Lefferts.

With a lesson in local history and geography, a street index, a wine tasting glossary, more than 100 city sights, restaurants and bars, more than 225 wineries - and some great driving roads, MAD MAPS' San Francisco/Wine Country Scenic Tours map is a complete visitors guide; to call it a "map" is almost a misnomer.

Discover The Smoky Mountains And Southern Appalachia With the latest release from MAD MAPS

MAD MAPS announces the February 2004 release of its much anticipated Smoky Mountains/Southern Appalachia Scenic Tours map, the latest regional title in its 15-part Land of The Free Series. With over twenty road trips to choose from, this map guides you along the scenic back roads of a region known for its blue mist, striking vistas and lush forests. Discoveries await visitors and locals alike with routes stretching into Eastern Tennessee, Southern Kentucky, Northern Georgia, and western North Carolina. All found within about a day's drive from Knoxville, TN.

Known for its dramatic scenery and twisting mountain highways, the Appalachian plateau offers endless choices for those in search of a unique experience. The area is rich with human history as well as some of the oldest forests and rock formations on Earth. Every year the region's dramatic ridges and sparkling streams draw throngs of visitors to its hills. However, with thousands of miles of scenic byways, many of its most interesting features remain relatively unknown. It's because of that fact that MAD MAPS chose the Smoky Mountains and Southern Appalachia for its latest installment.

Jennifer Lefferts, Founder and President of MAD MAPS, or Chief MAD Hatter, as she prefers to call herself, did much of the fieldwork personally and enlisted several local back roads enthusiasts with intimate knowledge of the region. Thanks to Ms. Lefferts and her MAD scouts, this latest map uncovers the area's best-kept secrets along with some of the better-known must-sees. "This part of the country has so many pristine stretches of road that it was hard to pick," says Ms. Lefferts. "Many visitors will choose to brave peak season gridlock to Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains National Park, but we provide great options nearby, ideal for any time of the year."

Acclaimed by Road&Track for "doing such a good job of mapping ...great...roads" and by Thunder Press for "exacting detail" and "entertaining commentary," MAD MAPS is designed for those who favor the road less traveled. "We've made sure to include tours to suit every interest," says Ms. Lefferts, "whether you're a Civil War history buff, a bluegrass fan, or a motorcyclist on a white knuckle mission."
