What We Do

Since 1999, California-based MAD [Motor Adventure Destinations] MAPS, Inc., has been charting scenic road trip adventures along America's less-traveled byways. Featuring handpicked routes scouted by locals, MAD MAPS' print products combine the best features of bulky travel guides with the essentials of traditional road maps. Atlas-grade maps provide a variety of customizable trips complete with turn-by-turn directions, road descriptions, and safety tips. A recommended selection of must-see landmarks, quirky roadside attractions, local fare, and an entertaining "It's a MAD World" commentary all offer perfect diversions alongthe way.

How We Started

Jenny Lefferts, President and Founder of MAD Maps, has been a motorcycle and back roads enthusiast for years although her passion began long before she was licensed to ride. Her dad's idea of a summer vacation was to load up the family in the '72 VW bus and take to the road. Jenny moved to San Francisco in 1987 and purchased her first motorcycle. She was instantly hooked and began searching the Bay Area for the best scenic roads: the seed for MAD MAPS was planted.

Where We're Headed

MAD MAPS maintains more rich, up-to-date, content than we can print and is now delivering our trademark scenic tours through cutting-edge digital platforms, providing consumers with new options for an enhanced and memorable travel experience. Our data set includes shapefiles (.SHP) of all routes, packaged with geo-coded Points of Interest (POIs) with key information and detailed narratives.
